The Regional Government of Valparaiso, with the support of the Undersecretary of Regional Development (SUBDERE), launched in October 2008 the Program for Strengthening Regional Identity, whose main purpose is to stimulate the creativity of the various sub-territories, setting up capacities for generate productive and social projects consistent with the vision that the region itself and its people have of themselves and their future.

In its first stage, the program was proposed as objective to identify the traits and attributes that characterize existing identities in the region, forms of coexistence and coexistence, and the potential of establishing a joint project of regional identity, from a multidisciplinary perspective and integrative which contributes to the development of the region.

Today, the Valparaiso has the description of a set of attributes that characterize it from a territorial perspective, historical and socio-cultural, that come together around the vision of Portal Region, Livable and Sustainable Heritage and Tourism, and that integrate the concept of a region with more quality of life.
